Mountain Bike World Championships in Albstadt will not take place from June 25th to 28th, 2020
Alternatives are being examined
The city of Albstadt informs that the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships presented by Mercedes-Benz will not take place in Albstadt from June 25th to 28th, 2020.
In the current critical situation of the worldwide spread of the corona virus with far-reaching travel restrictions, a world championship – like other major sporting events worldwide – cannot be held on this date.
At what time the World Championships could alternatively be held in Albstadt is currently being checked.
The city is in close contact with the world cycling association UCI, the Association of German Cyclists (BDR), the state of Baden-Württemberg with Prime Minister and patron Winfried Kretschmann.
Conceivable alternatives are relocation in autumn 2020 or implementation in 2021. A complete cancellation of this sporting highlight is not excluded, but should be avoided. In the middle of next week there will be a conference call between those responsible at UCI, BDR and the city’s World Cup organizers, in which a decision will be made as to which variant the UCI Mountain Bike World Championship will continue in Albstadt.
Mayor Klaus Konzelmann: “We were all looking forward to this highlight, but will put the health aspects in the foreground and try to find a common solution taking this guideline into account.”
